146:1 Halelû-yâ!
Celebrate Yahweh, O my being!
2 I will celebrate Yahweh with my life!
I will hymn to my God yet again!
3 Do not place trust in nobles,
in a man-child from whom is no rescue,
4 whose breath runs out, who returns to dirt—
on that day dies each one of his thoughts.
5 Happy whose sustainer is Jacob’s God,
whose whole hope is Yahweh his God,
6 Who shapes heavens and earth,
the sea and all within them,
the keeper of truth forever,
7 Who shapes justice for the abused,
provides bread for all the hungry.
Yahweh unshackles the prisoners,
8 Yahweh opens blind eyes,
Yahweh uplifts the downcast,
Yahweh loves the righteous,
9 Yahweh guards the sojourners,
orphans and widows supports—
the way of the wicked He warps.
10 King Yahweh reigns forever,
Zion’s Godhead from age to age.
Halelû-yâ!
147:1 Halelû-yâ!
For good it is to hymn to God,
for pleasing and proper is praise:
2 Yahweh builds up Jerusalem,
Israel’s outcasts He gathers,
3 He heals the broken-hearted
and bandages all their wounds,
4 He tallies the count of the stars,
to all of them names He does give.
5 Great is our Master and so full of power,
His understanding is uncountable.
6 Yahweh stands the lowly upright,
casts down the wicked to the ground.
7 Sing out thanksgiving to Yahweh,
and hymn to our God on the lyre—
8 He blankets the skies with cloud-covers,
He prepares for the land its rain,
He makes the hills blossom with grass,
9 He gives to the beast its bread,
to the raven’s young who cry out.
10 No horse’s might does He enjoy,
nor with men’s legs is He pleased.
11 Yahweh is pleased with His supplicants,
with those who hope in His loyal love.
12 Glory, Jerusalem, in Yahweh,
celebrate Your God, Zion—
13 for He bolstered the bars of your gates,
and He blessed your sons in your midst.
14 He borders you with profound peace,
with richest wheat He sates you,
15 He sends forth His utterance to earth,
with celerity runs His word,
16 He gives out snowfall like sheep’s wool,
cold-frost like coal-dust He scatters.
17 He flings His icicles like blades—
before His coldness who can stand?
18 He gives the word and they melt,
His breath blows—waters flow forth.
19 He reveals His words to Jacob,
His decrees and His rulings to Israel.
20 He has not done so for other nations,
and His rulings they have not known.
Halelû-yâ!
148:1 Halelû-yâ!
Celebrate Yahweh from the heavens,
celebrate Him from the heights.
2 Celebrate Him, all His angels,
celebrate Him, all His armies.
3 Celebrate Him, sun and moon,
celebrate Him, stars of light.
4 Celebrate Him, highest heavens,
and waters above the heavens.
5 Celebrate the name of Yahweh,
for He gave word and they were created,
6 and they stand firm forever,
a decree He gave, and will not pass away.
7 Celebrate Yahweh from the earth,
sea monsters and all the deeps,
8 fire and hail, blizzard and fume,
whirling wind, performing His word,
9 mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars,
10 beasts and all cattle,
crawlers and winged fowl,
11 kings of the earth and all folk,
princes and all judges of the earth,
12 young men and virgins,
old men with maidens,
13 they shall celebrate the name of Yahweh,
for His name alone is exalted,
His splendor over earth and heavens.
14 And He has raised a horn for His folk,
praise for all His faithful,
for Israel’s sons, folk of His presence.
Halelû-yâ!
149:1 Halelû-yâ!
Sing out to Yahweh a new song,
celebrate Him with the faithful throng!
2 Let Israel rejoice in its Maker,
let Zion’s sons revel in their King!
3 Celebrate His name with dancing,
with timbrel and lyre hymn to Him,
4 for Yahweh is pleased with His folk,
He adorns the wretched with rescue.
5 Let the faithful exult in glory,
let them resound upon their bedspreads,
6 the high praise of God on their lips,
and a double-edged sword in their hands,
7 to carve out vengeance in the nations,
right rebuke for the peoples,
8 to bind their kings in shackles
and their glorious ones in iron chains,
9 to carve out for them the justice described—
this grandeur for all His faithful.
Halelû-yâ!
150:1 Halelû-yâ!
Celebrate God in His sanctum,
celebrate Him in the vault of His strength,
2 celebrate Him for His mighty deeds,
celebrate Him for His vast greatness,
3 celebrate Him with the ram’s horn’s blast,
celebrate Him with harp and lyre,
4 celebrate Him with timbrel and dance,
celebrate Him with viols and pipes,
5 celebrate Him with clanging cymbals,
celebrate Him with crashing cymbals—
6 let all that has breath celebrate Yah!
Halelû-yâ!
